State of Kansas Reminds Citizens to File Taxes Online for Free Via WebFile

With 24/7 support and a simple filing experience, taxes don't have to be taxing after all

TOPEKA, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tax season is officially underway, and Kansans can file their 2019 Kansas Individual Income Tax Return online for free with Kansas WebFile.

This tax season, WebFilers can expect a streamlined filing experience with help at their convenience. Agent Kay, the state's official chatbot, will guide filers and answer their questions every step of the way.

Filing electronically is 80% quicker than filing by paper. Required materials to file online include:

  • All 2019 W-2 statements
  • A completed 2019 federal income tax return if required to file
  • An online account with KanAccess
  • A KDOR Access Code
    • This can be obtained from the Kansas Department of Revenue by email at; by phone at 785-368-8222 option 4; or any two of the following: Filer Name(s), 2018 Kansas Adjusted Gross Income (KAGI) or 2018 Refund or Balance Due.
  • A web browser that can handle 128-bit encryption
    • Examples include updated versions of Google Chrome, Safari or any other browser that can support the encryption.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader (some state and federal tax forms are available online as Adobe PDF files)
    • Download Adobe Acrobat Reader from for free to view and print these files.
  • A printer (optional)
    • Users can print their filing confirmation page, a summary of their filing, a payment voucher form or tax schedule forms.
