  • Simplifying Campground Reservations

    By NIC Inc. |

When thinking about a camping getaway, citizens often think about hiking, kayaking, and relaxing by the campfire. The last thing people need to worry about is the hassle of reserving a campsite. Join NIC government partners in New Jersey, Maine, and Hawaii and launch online services to create a stress-free campground reservation experience.

Here’s a quick look at some of the ways we’ve helped our government partners simplify campground reservations – all of which can be deployed quickly in any state:

    New Jersey

What if you could place all of the campground services people wanted into one comprehensive, mobile system? That’s exactly what we just helped the state of New Jersey accomplish. The new system gives campers the ability to easily update or cancel a campground reservation, filter campsites and campgrounds based on available amenities and recreational opportunities, create an account to securely store payment information and camping history, and more. The system puts control of all administrative functions into the hands of those that need it—park administrators. All content, from text to photos, can be managed simply and quickly. In the first two weeks after launching, the system processed more than 1,000 reservations.

    Maine

In Maine, campground reservations can now be fulfilled in 30 minutes instead of weeks. Reservations are now processed online with the Maine Department of Agriculture and Forestry’s Campground Reservations service, which can handle the demand of opening day. In fact, the system can now process hundreds of transactions in the first minutes of this busy day.

    Hawaii

You can make your campground reservation system 100 percent online, just like the state of Hawaii. Today all permits purchased by the public or issued by the agency use the online service. The system offers a significant amount of customization and flexibility depending on the agency’s needs and permit types. Each agency has the option to have a unique look and feel to separate its instance within the overall system from others. The online system reduced the amount of foot traffic seen at the agency offices by 84 percent in the first year and continues to be widely adopted and demonstrate cost savings.
